The School of Mathematics and Statistics (SMS) is home to four undergraduate programs, Applied Statistics (Actuarial Science orientation), Economic Statistics, Information and Computing Science, Mathematics and Applied Mathematics. The School has one master degree of first level discipline  Statistics, and four secondary discipline master degrees  National Economics, Economic Statistics, Applied Probability and Statistics, Managing Statistics. Among these disciplines, Statistics is the key first level discipline and the key program in Zhejiang province. And Mathematics is a key discipline of ZUFE. The School is composed of two departments (namely, Statistics and Applied Mathematics), four teaching and research divisions (namely, Mathematical Statistics, Economic Statistics, Applied Mathematics, and Computing and Optimization). The School offers students wellequipped special laboratories, a wellstocked readingresearching room, and longestablished student field work bases. SMS is composed of 52 faculty members, among whom 9 are professors, 19, associate professors, and 29 faculty members have doctoral degrees and one was awarded special allowance by State Department, one ministerial outstanding expert, 4 provincial tertiary middleaged academic leaders of Zhejiang, 5 “151”academic talents of Zhejiang province, 10 tertiary middleaged academic leaders and core teachers of ZUFE. One member was entitled “provincial teaching talent” and 3 “collegiate distinguished teacher” and “collegiate teaching talent”. One faculty member is qualified for doctoral supervision in Statistics. The School has a contingent of teachers and researchers with extensive research interests, profound knowledge, and wellknit scholarly work. SMS has made great achievement in research fields covering mathematical statistics, social economic statistics, probability limit theory, operation and optimization, computational mathematics, and econometrics. The faculty members are active in research and have published more than 300 academic articles in domestic and overseas top journals such as Math.Prog., SIAM Opt, Journal of Mathematics, Journal of Applied Mathematics, Annals of Mathematics, Statistics Research. In addition, over 40 articles are SCI indexed, and some have won provincial and state awards. In recent years, the faculty members have undertaken 11 research projects sponsored by National Natural / Social Science Foundation of China and tens of provincial research projects. Mathematics and Statistics is a vibrant researchled, teachingfronted, studentsoriented School, which holds the tenet of “wide caliber, solid foundation, high ability, comprehensive quality”, thrives on students’ exploration and creativity, and fosters the students’ comprehensive quality and collaboration. Driven by a combination of inclass teaching and field work practice, academic learning and occupation ability, the School has been undergoing reform of teaching mode, endeavoring to educate competitive undergraduates and graduates. With the quality education and innovative personnel training system being the key line, the School seeks to strengthen educational reform and enhance teaching quality, and has made great achievements in alliance with the goal of university to be a wellknown teaching and research juxtaposed comprehensive university. In recent years, students have won many awards in various contests, including one national first prize, 6 national second prizes, and 10 provincial first prizes in Contemporary Undergraduate Mathematical Contest in Modelling. And in Contemporary Undergraduate Statistical Contest of Modelling, the student participants won 1 national first prize, 2 national second prizes and 3 national third prizes. In Zhejiang Statistical Survey Plan Design Contest, 7 won the first prize, 4, the second prize and 3, the third prize. Undergraduates and graduates are welcomed and well evaluated by employers for their professional knowledge and practical skills, which also ensures very high employment. The recent years witness onetime employment rate is over 95% per year. Applied Statistics (actuarial statistics orientation) The program is designed for willbe professional talents who would like to be involved in risk estimation and management in the field of stock exchange, investment bank, social security, and insurance. Applied Statistics is an integration of mathematical statistics and financial investment. The program extends students’ knowledge of mathematics, economics, statistics and actuarial statistics, capability of the data compiling and analysis, and the application of statistics and actuarial statistics to analyzing and dealing with practical problems in economy. The program also prepares students to be actuaries who are urgently needed talents in the near future. Besides, the program integrates statistics and economics, which equips students with knowledge of statistics and economics, capability of data compiling and analysis and employing theoretical statistics and economics to analyze and solve practical problems in economy. Information and Computing Science The program is designed for willbe professional talents who are seeking to engage in research, teaching, application development and management related to the field of research, engineering and construction, business, finance and stock exchange, software, information consultant, network and telecommunication. Through specific learning in basic mathematics and computer technology, the program is to expand students’ theoretical knowledge and methodological approaches to information science and computer science, and to introduce them a range of basic language, tools and special software in the field of basic theoretical concepts in information and computing science applicable to practical problems in technological, national security, financial and economic systems. Students enrolling in this program will also be introduced to a range of new theoretical, technological and applicable development in information and computing science, which endows them with capability of knowledge updating, technology tracking and creation. Offering students solid training in basic mathematics, the program is to develop students’ ability in solving real problems and obtaining basic training in research and practice with the help of theoretical knowledge of mathematics and computer software. Students enrolling in this program will also be introduced to a range of logical thinking and thing methods in mathematical science, which develops their problem solving ability by mathematical modelling, and mathematics lecturing ability. They are also skilful in using computer (including basic language, tools and mathematics software) and application programming.
