Founded in 2002, the School of Arts and Humanities, Zhejiang University of Finance and Economics, has a solid cultural foundation and a broad future prospect. Abiding by the principles of “Establish on teaching, grow on research and prosper in harmony” the school has made rapid progress in promoting academic disciplines and programs, improving courses and building teaching and research teams. At present, the school has four departments and one center – Department of Chinese Language and Literature, Department of International Chinese, Communication, Department of Digital Media, and -Center of Cultural Quality Education. There are also five research institutes which study the Chinese philology, industry of Chinese calligraphy, Chinese literature and art, communication, and Chinese classics respectively. Now the school has a postgraduate program of Chinese Language and Characters as well as four undergraduate programs -- Chinese Linguistics and Literature, Advertising, Digital Media Art, and Chinese International Education. Chinese Language Philology is a key discipline of the 12th Five-Year Plan of Zhejiang Province. Chinese Literature & Art and Communication are two of the Key Disciplines of the university and Chinese Linguistics and Literature is one of the Key Majors of the university.
The school has a well-constructed teaching staff of 52 members, among whom there are 12 professors, 16 associate professors, who combine to make 63.6% of the whole teaching group. On the other hand, 31 members are PH.D, taking up 70.5% of the professional teachers. Three teachers are selected as candidates of the Zhejiang New Century “151 Talents Project”, among whom one is “Young and Middle-aged Academic Pacesetter of Zhejiang's Universities and Colleges”, one is chosen as the “Excellent Teacher of Zhejiang's Universities and Colleges”, and one is the promising young teacher of Zhejiang Province. In the recent five years, the teachers of the school have undertaken 7 research projects sponsored by National Social Science Foundation of China, 7 projects are sponsored by Social Science Foundation of the Ministry of Education, 18 are Provincial Social Science Planning Projects, 1 international cooperation project, and 50 other research projects. In addition, the faculty of the school has published more than 20 academic monographs and over 300 treatises in domestic and foreign journals. The outstanding work in research has won them more than 20 Philosophy and Social Science Awards of Zhejiang Province, along with Philosophy and Social Sciences Awards of Provincial Council and Provincial Department of Education.
With an enrollment of 900 full-time undergraduates and over 30 postgraduates, the School of Arts and Humanities makes education of students its top priority. Resorting to the strength of the university in finance and economics, the school puts emphasis on fostering the creativity as well as the practical ability of students. Implementing the talent-training model of combining inherent qualities with distinguishing features, the school has produced many adaptable graduates with solid fundamental knowledge and high comprehensive quality who are well received by society.
