On October 16, the 2021 Annual Meeting and “Translating China” Symposium of Zhejiang Translation Association was held at the Xiasha Campus of ZUFE. Prof. Li Zhanrong, Vice President of ZUFE, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech. More than 100 experts and scholars from language service industry associations, colleges, and universities inside and outside the province attended the symposium.
On behalf of ZUFE, Mr. Li Zhanrong extended his welcome to all the guests and briefly introduced both ZUFE and the School of Foreign Languages. He pointed out that, with the theme of "Translating China", the symposium was academically significant, and made epochal and practical sense because participants would exchange ideas on a wide range of topics, including the translation and dissemination of the red culture, the translation and acceptance of Chinese culture, the translation of Chinese scholarly works for foreign markets, translation courses, corpora and translation research, cultivation of translation talents, and others. Finally, he sincerely hoped that all the experts and scholars would express their opinions and put forward suggestions for the development of disciplines and specialties and the cultivation of talents at ZUFE.
Professor Huang Youyi, Executive Vice President of the China Translation Association, Professor Wang Kefei from Beijing Foreign Studies University, Professor Li Zhengshuan from Hebei Normal University, Professor Fan Jieping, President of Zhejiang Translation Association, and Professor Li Changbao from ZUFE School of Foreign Languages delivered their keynote speeches, the titles of which are respectively “From ‘Translating the World’ to ‘Translating China’ -- The Necessity of History and the Mission of the Times”, “Several Problems of Translation”, “Research on English Translations of Mao Zedong’s Poems”, “Early-Stage Red Translations Activities of Zhejiang Revolutionaries”, and “Translation and Dissemination of the Communist Manifesto: One Hundred Years On”.
The experts and scholars at the conference closely focused on the theme and had in-depth exchanges on the translation and dissemination of the red culture, teaching of translation courses, and cultivation of translation talents.
As a great academic gathering for the translation circle of Zhejiang Province, the symposium provided experts and scholars from inside and outside the province with a platform to share their academic ideas and research results, which would certainly have a positive impact on the construction of the foreign language and literature discipline at ZUFE.
