Recently, the 2021 German iF Design Award, a well-known award in the designers' circle worldwide, announced this year’s winners. The ceramic works "Green Leader" and "Nanchang Siga," designed by teacher Jianhua Dong from ZUFE's College of Humanities and Communications, stood out among numerous works and won this design competition.
"Green Leader" is designed as a gift of the Red Star Macalline China Green Home Conference. It adopts flexible language to express the concept of environmental protection, allowing users to trigger thinking step by step about the green concept during their experience. The value itself is far greater than its brand promotion. It is related to the conceptual innovation of an industry. The concept of green home furnishings will benefit humankind in multiple dimensions and at a profound level.
The social value of "Nanchang Siga" lies in reviving traditions and establishing the connections between modern people's daily lives and the traditional black porcelain culture: Although we have a fast-paced lifestyle in this information era, we can also sit beside the tea table and contemplate the civilized and gentle tea-fighting tradition of ancient sages. From the perspective of design practice, it provides a possibility for contemporary designers' works to respond to traditional, current, and future issues.
Since its inception in 1953, the iF Design Award has always been globally recognized as a symbol for commending excellent designs. It is also known as one of the Four Major Design Awards in the world, along with the German Red Dot Award, the American IDEA Award, and the Japanese G-Mark Award. The design competition this year received nearly 10,000 works from 52 countries around the globe, hitting a record high. The participating works must be selected online at the preliminary and final stages, then experience a series of tests from different experts so as to finally compete for the Best Design.
