From July 1 to 5, to deepen academic exchange and research cooperation between Chinese and Kazakh universities, and advance the development of the Kazakhstan Silk Road Institute, Zheng Yali, Vice President of Zhejiang University of Finance and Economics (ZUFE), led a delegation to visit partner universities in Kazakhstan, including L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University, Nazarbayev University, and Almaty Management University.
On July 2, the delegation visited L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, and was warmly received by Ardak Beisenbai, Vice President of the university, Aida Zhagyparova, Dean of the School of Economics, and Anastassiya Karmelyuk, Director of the Department of International Cooperation. Zheng Yali noted that ENU is ZUFE’s key cooperation partner in Kazakhstan, and expressed hope that this visit would serve as an opportunity to advance cooperation between the two universities in joint doctoral training programs, research projects, and joint research initiatives. Beisenbai expressed willingness to further consolidate bilateral friendly cooperation, strengthen faculty and student exchanges, and promote joint training programs. The two sides also held in-depth discussions on topics including China-Kazakhstan economic and trade investment, cross-border e-commerce, and production capacity cooperation.

That afternoon, the delegation met with Kadisha Dairova, Vice President of Nazarbayev University, Aliya Kaimoldinova, Director of the Global Cooperation Department, Alen Kuspanov, Deputy Director of the department, and other representatives. Zheng Yali stated that Nazarbayev University is located in the place where the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) was first proposed, and expressed hope that the two sides would establish a friendly institutional relationship and advance practical cooperation including faculty and student exchange visits and academic exchanges. Dairova noted that Nazarbayev University will continue to strengthen cooperation with Chinese universities, and cultivate more talents for the joint development of the BRI and the economic and social development of China and Kazakhstan.

During their stay in Astana, the delegation paid a special visit to the Chinese Embassy in Kazakhstan, and was warmly received by Jiang Zhongliang, Education Counselor of the Embassy. Zheng Yali introduced the university’s achievements in participating in the BRI education cooperation initiative, advancing area and country studies, and developing the Kazakhstan Silk Road Institute. Jiang Zhongliang spoke highly of ZUFE’s contributions to China-Kazakhstan education cooperation, and expressed hope that the university would further leverage its disciplinary and professional strengths, strengthen research on issues including China-Kazakhstan logistics, cross-border e-commerce, accounting and tax standards, and agricultural economy, build a Central Asia research database, and develop “small yet beautiful” exemplary cooperation projects.

On the afternoon of July 3, the delegation visited Almaty Management University, and was warmly received by Sholpan Tazbek, Vice President of the university, Shalkar Boluspayev, Dean of the School of Economics and Finance, Raushan Sadykiova, Deputy Dean of the school, and Aliya Akpayeva, Director of the International Office. Zheng Yali stated that since the two universities jointly established the Silk Road Institute, their cooperation has continued to expand. The two sides have successively held three sessions of the “Silk Road E-commerce” training program, and jointly launched the “Digital Economy” Summer School Program and the “Chinese Bridge” Language and Culture Program, which have received support from the Center for Language Education and Cooperation of the Ministry of Education, and were selected as Zhejiang Best Practice Case for International Trade and Investment Promotion. She emphasized the need to continue to develop the Silk Road Institute, and build an international industry-university-research collaboration platform integrating talent cultivation, personnel training, and area and country studies.

During the visit, the two sides signed a Student Exchange Program Agreement, and held in-depth discussions on a Joint Master’s Training Program in International Trade, and a “Business Administration + Chinese” talent cultivation and training program.
Zheng Yali and Sholpan Tazbek signed a Student Exchange Agreement on behalf of the two universities.
On the morning of July 4, the delegation paid a special visit to the Chinese Consulate General in Almaty, and was warmly received by Huang Xiaomin, Education Consul, Liu Yuhui, Science and Technology Consul, and Yang Hui, Commercial Consul. Zheng Yali introduced the university’s achievements in serving enterprises' Going Global strategy, and the joint development of the Kazakhstan Silk Road Institute with Almaty Management University. Huang Xiaomin and other representatives introduced China-Kazakhstan cooperation in education, science and technology, and business cooperation, and expressed hope that the university would strengthen cooperation with Kazakhstan, encourage more young people to engage in mutual learning, and serve as bridges and envoys for China-Kazakhstan friendly exchanges.

During their visit to Kazakhstan, the delegation also conducted field visits to overseas Chinese-funded enterprises including China Emerging Construction Kazakhstan Branch and YTO Express Almaty Branch, and was warmly received by Zhang Liye, Deputy General Manager of the Overseas Business Division of China Emerging Construction, and Hu Ruiqi, Vice President of YTO International. The delegation investigated the investment and operation of relevant enterprises in Kazakhstan, and gained an on-site understanding of the practical needs of Going Global enterprises for international talent cultivation, overseas employee training, and business consulting.

This visit is an important measure for ZUFE to further advance the "New Finance and Economics Strategy", and build new development advantages through international exchange and cooperation. It is of great significance for expanding cooperation with universities in BRI countries, advancing country and area studies on Central Asia, and improving the efficiency of serving Zhejiang enterprises’ Going Global strategy.
