On July 14, the “Zhejiang Merchants Going Global” BRICS Industry Matchmaking Event targeting the China Cooperation Center for BRICS Special Economic Zones was held in Qiantang District, Hangzhou. Hosted by Federation of Industry and Commerce of Zhejiang Province, supported by Hangzhou Federation of Industry and Commerce and Zhejiang University of Finance and Economics (ZUFE), the event was undertaken by the United Front Work Department of Qiantang District Party Committee, Qiantang District Federation of Industry and Commerce, Zhejiang Merchants Capital Market Research Institute of ZUFE, Qiantang District Bureau of Commerce, Construction and Management Office of Jianghai City (Qiantang District), Qiantang District Construction and Investment Group, China-Africa Service Center and Qiantang Research Center for Contemporary Internationalization. Lin Jianliang, Member of the Party Committee and Vice Chairman of Zhejiang Provincial Federation of Industry and Commerce, Zheng Yali, Vice President of ZUFE, Zhou Hua, Member of the Party Committee and Vice Chairman of Hangzhou Federation of Industry and Commerce, Zhou Weidong, Member of the Standing Committee of Qiantang District Party Committee and Director of the United Front Work Department, Li Jun, Deputy Director of Qiantang New Area Administrative Committee and Member of the District Government Party Group attended the event. Over 100 representatives from competent departments at provincial, municipal and district levels, ZUFE, overseas institutions, chambers of commerce, international students and Zhejiang enterprises investing in BRICS countries were present.
Zheng Yali noted that university think tanks should shoulder due responsibilities in developing an open economy. ZUFE will further deepen cooperative research with universities across BRICS nations and facilitate the founding of a Cross-Border Industry-University-Research Alliance to fuel the upgraded development of Zhejiang’s “Sweet Potato Economy” with academic strengths.

Zheng Yali and Zhou Weidong jointly unveiled the Globalization Service Center for Enterprises Going Global of the Zhejiang Merchants Capital Market Research Institute, ZUFE. The inauguration marks fresh progress in the university’s industry-university-research collaborative innovation and will provide full-chain intellectual support for Zhejiang enterprises exploring BRICS markets.

Fu Wenlin, Dean of the School of Public Finance and Taxation, signed the Strategic Cooperation Agreement on Full Life Cycle Services for Enterprises Going Global with the Qiantang Research Center for Contemporary Internationalization. Professor Wu Xin was appointed as an Overseas Service Mentor of the Qiantang District General Chamber of Commerce. Yu Guangrui, research fellow at Zhejiang Merchants Capital Market Research Institute, delivered a keynote speech and released a research report entitled Supply Chain Going Global Practices in Neighboring BRICS Countries, which systematically analyzed investment opportunities in emerging markets.
As key representatives of emerging economies, BRICS countries boast vast market space and immense development potential and serve as core investment destinations for Zhejiang merchants going global. As a core supporting think tank of the China Cooperation Center for BRICS Special Economic Zones, ZUFE will leverage its disciplinary strengths, deepen country and area studies, build the BRICS Countries Database, refine the multi-stakeholder linkage mechanism involving government, industry, universities, research institutes, end-users, and media collaboration mechanism and pioneer new cooperation modes for overseas industrial parks to contribute ZUFE Strength to Zhejiang’s development.
