September 19 marked the 18th National Seminar on Statistical Science for Young and Middle-aged People in the Academic Center of the Xiasha Campus. The theme of this seminar is "the modernization of China's system and capacity for governance and new development of statistics". It is hosted by National Statistical Society of China (NSSC) and Statistical Research press and undertaken by Zhejiang University of Finance and Economics (ZUFE). During the meeting, Zhajie Zheng, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Acting Governor, Fei Feng, Member of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee and Executive Vice Governor, and others respectively met with Deputy Director of the National Development and Reform Commission, Director of the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), and Jizhe Ning, President of National Statistical Society of China (NSSC), and Yuping Zeng, chief statistician of National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) and his delegation. Representatives from NBS, Zhejiang Provincial Bureau of Statistics, Zhejiang Survey Team of NBS, Tsinghua University, Renmin University of China, Nankai University, Beijing Normal University, Capital University of Economics and Business, Beijing University of Technology, Dongbei University of Finance and Economics, as well as more than 200 teachers and students of ZUFE attended the seminar.
Mr. Ning made a keynote speech of the seminar. He introduced the yielded fruits of China's statistics undertakings during the 13th Five-Year Plan period from the aspects of reform and innovation in key statistical areas, the effectiveness of statistical legal supervision, and the international impact of statistical open cooperation. At the same time, three points of hope were put forward for the theoretical and practical research of young and middle-aged statisticians in the new era and new situation. First is to concentrate on making concerted efforts and fulfill due responsibility. That means conscientiously implementing the relevant spirit of the central government on statistical reform, unswervingly promoting statistical reform and innovation, and promoting the high-quality development of statistical work. Second is to focus on difficult points around the center. In-depth research on statistical theories, institutional methods, and organizational governance should be carried out focusing on the key areas and key issues that affect and restrict the development of statistical undertakings, and statistical scientific research during the "14th Five-Year Plan" period should be solidly carried out. Third is to stand up to the forefront and offer suggestions. Young and middle-aged statisticians must keep an eye on the frontiers of statistics and practical needs, raise new questions, open up new fields, explore new paths, be explorers in the practice of statistical reform, pioneers in statistical theoretical research, and shepherds who combine theory and practice.
Mr. Ning and Mr. Feng, accompanied by ZUFE’s Party Committee Secretary Mr. Li, Principal Xiaomin Zhong and others, visited ZUFE's "Yefang Sun Economic Science Award Archives", "Nobel Prize in Economics Archives", exhibition of college students' rural revitalization creative competition and outstanding achievements in social practice. They highly affirmed the achievements of ZUFE, and hoped that it could continue to give full play to its talents and professional advantages in serving local economic and social construction.
Mr. Zeng, Chief Statistician of NBS and Executive Vice President of NSSC, delivered a welcome speech. Jinchang Li, Secretary of the Party Committee of the university, introduced the basic situation of ZUFE and the achievements of statistics department to the delegates. Xianchun Xu, professor from the School of Economics and Management of Tsinghua University,Professor Dong Diu from the School of Institute of National Accounting of Beijing Normal University, Professor Xiaojun Wang, Dean of the School of Statistics of Renmin University of China, Professor Zhaojun Wang, Executive Dean of the Institute of Statistics of Nankai University, Professor Weiguo Wang, Vice President of the School of Finance and Economics of Dongbei University, Professor Hong Ji, Dean of the Institute of big data and Statistics Science of Capital University of Economics and Business, Professor Weihu Cheng of the School of Statistics and Data Science of Beijing University of Technology, and Professor Xingjian Hong, Dean of the School of Data Science of ZUFE, gave academic reports.
The opening ceremony of the seminar was presided over by Kuiquan Wang, Vice President of ZUFE. Haiqi Lu, Director of the Institute of Statistical Science of NBS, Junli Zhao, Deputy Director, and Jinchang Li, Secretary of the Party Committee of ZUFE presided over invited academic reports of three stages respectively. The seminar was held in the form of "online plus offline". The participating experts and scholars conducted special seminars focusing on "government statistics", "national economic accounting and high-quality development statistical measurement", "statistical research on finance and people's livelihood", "economic statistics measurement analysis", and "statistical theoretical methods and application of information technology in statistics".
