ZUFE Held 2023 International Conference of Regulation Theory and Policy

To enhance the regulatory efficiency and modernization of the Chinese government and develop a theoretical, academic, and discourse system for Chinese government regulation theory, the 2023 International Conference of Regulation Theory and Policy was held on December 9 at ZUFE's Xiasha Campus.

The conference was inaugurated by Professor Wang Junhao, a distinguished expert recognized by Zhejiang Province, a recipient of the Ministry of Education's Changjiang Scholars Program, and Dean of the China Institute of Regulation and Public Policy Research. In his opening remarks, Professor Wang provided a brief overview of the Institute's development and significant research achievements. He expressed his hope that this conference would yield more innovative academic perspectives and practical policy recommendations to advance regulation economics theory and improve the efficiency of government regulation in China.

Keynote speakers included Chen Yongmin, Professor of the University of Colorado; Professor Alessandra Guidi, Science and technology Counselor at the Italian Embassy in China and dean of the School of Food Inspection at the University of Pisa; Xu Kaiqin, Professor of Fuzhou University; Zhang Bing, Vice President of Nanjing University of Finance and Economics; Professor Li Sanxi, Director of the Digital Economy Research Center at Renmin University of China; Professor Yu Zuo, Director of the Digital Economy Research Institute at Dongbei University of Finance and Economics; He Zhenyu, Associate Professor of the State University of New York; Liu Youming, Senior Economist of the Bank of Canada; Zhao Xianbo, Associate Professor of Central Queensland University in Australia; Marko Dapan, Associate Professor of University of Kragujevac in Serbia, and Wang Ling, Researcher of ZUFE.

The participating experts and scholars engaged in extensive discussions and exchanges on cutting-edge issues in the digital economy, such as competition, regulation, and welfare in digital products; the challenges posed by the digital economy to effective markets and proactive government; the transformation of Chinese government regulation in the digital era; and competition policies for digital platforms. They also explored frontier issues in social regulation, including food safety, international experiences in comprehensive watershed management, healthcare, building standards, environmental protection, and industrial safety. Through the exchange of ideas among domestic and international scholars, the conference further clarified key and forefront issues in the field of government regulation. It presented a series of innovative research conclusions and policy approaches, providing valuable insights and references to enhance the efficiency and modernization of Chinese government regulation and to develop a theoretical, academic, and discourse system for it.

The opening ceremony was hosted by Researcher Wang Ling, the executive dean of the China Institute of Regulation Research. The conference was jointly organized by the China Institute of Regulation and Public Policy Research at ZUFE, the Industrial Regulation Professional Committee of the Chinese Society of Industrial Economics, the Urban Public Utilities Reform and Regulation Professional Committee of the China Association of Urban Science, and the Energy Regulation Professional Committee of the China Energy Research Society. It was co-hosted by the China Institute of Regulation Research at ZUFE, 2011 Collaborative Innovation Center of Zhejiang Province for Government Regulation in Urban Public Utilities, and the First-Class Discipline of Applied Economics in Zhejiang Province.
