Students twinkle bright, ZUFE bathed in their light. ZUFE hosted the “Shinning · Exemplary students” Honor Ceremony at the West Ground Track Field on the evening of May 28 in an effort to extensively showcase exemplary students, highlight their inspirational roles and celebrate their remarkable achievements over the past year. The event was graced by the presence of school leaders, including Li Jinchang, Wei Jiang, Wang Kuiquan, Sun Xudong, Xu Xiaodong, Dong Jincai, Cheng Shuang, and Shen Tuli, along with heads of relevant functional departments, deans of various colleges, and over 4,000 teachers and student representatives attended the honor ceremony to witness this triumphant moment.

Li Jinchang, secretary of ZUFE’s Party Committee, announced the commencement of the ceremony. The university has always regarded “Exemplary Students” as a new pursuit for talent cultivation, and by implementing the “Four Ace Initiatives” (in terms of programs, courses, faculty, and teaching materials) as the key, they direct the pathway to honor. Honor is both a reflection and a call to action. ZUFE students are expected to recognize their historical mission and responsibilities clearly in the context of the times, exemplify as role models, and shine brightly like gold on their way to success. They are also encouraged to dedicate their youth to Zhejiang, and to grow into talents with both integrity and exceptional ability, committed to serving our country.

“What do you aspire to be? What are your ambitions or goals? And how can you achieve those goals?” These were the questions posed by Wei Jiang, deputy secretary of ZUFE’s Party Committee, in his speech titled “The Role of Youth and the Mission of ZUFE”. Wei Jiang recalled with nostalgia that seeing the students present here today reminded him of his own college days. Back then, he had dreams in his heart and wondered what kind of person he would become twenty years later. Wei Jiang cited the concept of the “well-rounded individuals” put forward by Wang Guowei, a master of traditional Chinese culture, in his work “On the Mission of the University” and suggested that “exemplary ZUFE students” should be MAQ-type “well-rounded individuals” (M stands for Morality, A for Ability, and Q for Quality).
Wei Jiang stated that ZUFE should establish a new talent cultivation system centered around the “well-rounded individuals” philosophy, aiming to enable every student to realize their meaningful self-fulfillment. Looking forward, Wei emphasized that with major technological transformations, significant social changes, and profound industrial restructurings on the horizon, the students present today will become the pillars of the nation. When you reach your forties or fifties, at the prime time to fulfill your devotion to the nation’s greater good, what kind of talent should you become? According to Wei Jiang, the answer is an MAQ-type “exemplary ZUFE students”. He emphasized that ZUFE aims to produce not just employable individuals, jobholders, or high earners, but also those harbor dreams—students who begin with the end in mind to compose their life’s aspirations.
“May you, when you reach your seventies or eighties, feel no regret for a life of mediocrity, but instead truly experience the fulfillment of a meaningful life through your dreams—that is the greatest value of life,” said Wei Jiang. He emphasized that ZUFE’s mission is to cultivate talent for the CPC and China, transforming students into responsible and compassionate individuals with dreams in their hearts, radiance in their eyes, confidence in their steps, and eloquence in their words. To achieve this, ZUFE will comprehensively enhance its learning and teaching environment, making “exemplary ZUFE students” even more spirited and dynamic!

Loud and clear resound the songs, notes float on the breeze; youth surges with boundless zest, dreams set sail to distant skies. Amid the sweet melody of the school anthem, all university leaders and students jointly illuminated the starry sky. Together, they brandished star-shaped light wands, merging into a boundless galaxy of brilliance! Upon scanning the QR code on the screen, students typed their names with care—each shining name a celestial spark, igniting ZUFE’s galaxy! The impassioned anthem inspired all attendees, urging ZUFE students to fulfill the era’s expectations and channel youth’s strength through steadfast advancement.

“The tightrope between persistence and surrender, and the fragile moments when I almost let go but chose to rise again are the building blocks of my identity. To me, resilience is the compass that cuts through life’s fog,” shared by Xiang Surui, a Grade 2020 student of the School of Accounting, as she unpacked three defining crossroads in her college years.
Ren Zhiyuan, a Grade 2021 Ph.D. student majoring in Economic Statistics at Zhejiang Research Institute of ZUFE-University of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, recounted his journey of academic research growth from two aspects: “study real problems” and “truly studying problems”. He believes that academic research is not aimed at obtaining a single thesis or a degree, but at cultivating the ability to think independently and solve problems.
Four students representatives from the Second Undergraduate Party Branch of the School of Public Finance and Taxation shared their successful experiences in the postgraduate entrance examination. The members of the branch’s Party Committee have all been admitted to further study for five consecutive years. Among the eight members, four were admitted to Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, one was admitted to Zhejiang University, one was admitted to the University of Sydney, and one passed China’s civil service examination.
