ZUFE Alumni Reunite and Rekindle Memories on 2022 Homecoming Day

On November 5th, Zhejiang University of Finance and Economics (ZUFE) held its 2022 Alumni Homecoming Day at the Xiasha campus. More than a thousand alumni, who graduated decades ago, gathered from all corners to revisit the campus, retrace their academic journeys, reunite with old friends and teachers, and relive campus memories. The event provided a wonderful opportunity for alumni to reconnect with their alma mater and catch up with their fellow graduates while sending their sincerest blessings to ZUFE.

At 10 a.m., the 2022 Alumni Homecoming and Graduation Ceremony was held at Puhua Theater. ZUFE leaders including Li Jinchang, Zhong Xiaomin, Huang Jianxin, Yu Jiansen, Wang Kuiquan, Sun Xudong, Li Zhanrong, Xu Xiaodong, and Shentu Li, as well as Deputy Secretary and Governor of Qiantang District Shen Yanjun, Director of the Qiantang District Government Office Pan Bingfeng, and Director of the Qiantang District Education Bureau Qian Xiaohua, attended the ceremony. Also present were the Deputy Secretary General of the ZUFE Alumni Association, heads of relevant departments, heads of alumni work from each school, principals of ZUFE-affiliated schools, representatives of alumni associations, the ninth “Most Beautiful Alumni” award winners, the fourth “ZUFE Family” enterprise representatives, and representatives from classes of 1982, 1992, 2002, and 2012, as well as faculty and student representatives.

In his speech, Li Jinchang, ZUFE’s Secretary of the Party Committee, warmly welcomed the returning alumni on behalf of the university. He acknowledged that the past 48 years have been a time of remarkable growth and advancement for ZUFE. As a young university, its rapid progress alongside China’s reform and opening up is thanks to the joint efforts of all “Zufers,” the support of higher authorities, various sectors of society, and the Qiantang District. Today, ZUFE is a top-tier institution for cultivating high-level talent in finance and economics while conducting cutting-edge research. It services undergraduates, postgraduates, and doctorates, providing an all-round education system. It is renowned as the “Huangpu Military Academy for finance and taxation cadres, the cradle for accountants, the fertile ground for finance professionals, and a hall of entrepreneurship” in Zhejiang. ZUFE is studying and implementing the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China and the 14th Five-Year Plan. Its goal is to become a top-tier university of finance and economics with unique characteristics. Secretary Li emphasized that alumni are the most valuable resources and wealth for ZUFE. Alumni have forged ZUFE’s spirit, personality, and reputation over the years, and ZUFE highly values its alumni work. The university has implemented the strategy of “building a university renowned for a strong alumni network” and now has 144 alumni associations and a media matrix consisting of websites, journals, and official accounts. This reinforces its reputation for its alumni work. Moreover, Secretary Li called on all alumni to continue to support ZUFE and work together through thick and thin. He encouraged them to back up ZUFE as always, and contribute to making it a top-tier university of finance and economics that adheres to the “two firsts” strategy. ZUFE will also build platforms to serve alumni and forge a community of shared future for both sides.

During the ceremony, an unveiling ceremony was held for the “Qiantang Youxue” plaque, and ZUFE signed a “Strategic Cooperation Agreement” with the Qiantang District Government. District Governor Shen Yanjun and ZUFE President Zhong Xiaomin together unveiled plaques for four ZUFE-affiliated schools located in the district: Wenhai Lingyun Primary School, Tingtao Primary School, Wenhan Kindergarten, and Yunfan Kindergarten. The plaques with the inscription “ZUFE Affiliated School” were hung in recognition of their affiliation with ZUFE.

At the ceremony, ZUFE’s Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee Huang Jianxin and Yu Jiansen presented the ninth Peach and Plum Medal for the Most Beautiful Zufers to 26 exceptional alumni. These alumni, including CPPCC members, police officers, entrepreneurs, and rural revitalization promoters, have made remarkable contributions in the fields of public welfare, digital government reform, public security, talent training, and common prosperity. These individuals work at the grassroots and serve as both exemplary Zufers and great role models for current ZUFE students.

ZUFE’s Vice President Xu Xiaodong awarded a plaque to the fourth “ZUFE Family” alumni enterprises during the ceremony. For Zufers, ZUFE is not only a place for academic pursuit but also a spiritual home filled with knowledge and cherished memories. The “ZUFE Family” alumni enterprises epitomize ZUFE’s culture and spirit, and the name “ZUFE Family” itself bears the university’s imprint. It has continued to carry on ZUFE’s legacy and witness its profound changes throughout the years.

“Dear ZUFE, I am back! Wishing you all the best!” These words elicited both excitement and tears from the returning alumni, no matter how long it had been since they last visited. During the ceremony, alumni representatives stepped onto the stage to express their excitement and appreciation to ZUFE. They presented flowers and heartfelt wishes to the teachers who had dedicated years of their lives to teaching, expressing deep gratitude for their guidance, and reliving fond memories of their college days.

As part of the event, a degree-granting ceremony took place for the alumni from the classes of 1982, 1992, 2002, and 2012. School leaders assisted with the turning of the tassels, and the alumni, dressed in their caps and gowns, took photos with their teachers. Looking back on their college days, the joys and hardships of their memories are now distant, but not forgotten. Today, ZUFE joyfully welcomes back its accomplished alumni from all walks of life.
