On February 23, the Academic Conference on Digital Economy Development and Governance (2024) was held in Hangzhou. Co-hosted by Zhejiang University, its School of Management, the Digital Social Sciences Convergence Program of Zhejiang University, and the School of Management of Zhejiang University of Finance and Economics, this conference, themed "Digital Industry Development and Paradigm Shift", drew over 600 participants from esteemed universities including Tsinghua University, Peking University, Renmin University of China, Fudan University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Xi'an Jiao Tong University, Harbin Institute of Technology, and Nanjing University. The conference was live-streamed via a video platform, reaching an audience of more than 5,000 viewers on the day of the event.

Serving as the Executive Chairman of the conference, Wei Jiang, Vice Secretary of the CPC Committee of ZUFE and Vice President leading executive work, presented a keynote speech entitled "Data-Based View: Theoretical Construction of Digital Enterprises". Focusing on the newly constructed "data-based view", he pointed out that with data emerging as a new factor of production and being utilized to elucidate the existence of enterprises, there is a pressing need to establish a corresponding theoretical paradigm. In the context of the profound impact of digital technology on individuals and enterprises, organizational forms, and internal logic reconstruction, only those enterprises that can master non-public data and possess high-level data processing capabilities can truly transform data into enduring competitive edge. He highlighted the inseparable link between data value and handler expertise, encompassing artificial intelligence, refined algorithms, and robust computing power. Divergent data application strategies inevitably lead to unique data resource structuring and influence data exploitation tactics.

At the event, Jiang Xiaojing, Professor at the University of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Zhu Feng, Tenured Professor of Harvard Business School, Huang Xianhai, Vice President of Zhejiang University, and Xue Lan, Dean of the Schwarzman Scholars at Tsinghua University, delivered keynote addresses at the conference. Their respective topics were "Economic Analysis of Data: Factors, Industries, and Markets", "The Competitive and Collaborative Relationship Between Digital Platforms and Ecosystem Partners", "Digital Trade Platforms and China's Innovation Transformation", and "Governance Challenges in the Development of Artificial Intelligence".

Additionally, the conference also held sessions on "Digital Industry Development" and "Digital Organization Development and Transformation". Dai Weiqi, Deputy Dean of the School of Management, analyzed the general path of the ecological evolution of the industrial Internet platform led by prominent manufacturing enterprises. He highlighted the imperative for future research to focus on unraveling the formation and evolutionary dynamics of the industrial Internet platform ecosystem. This, he emphasized, is crucial for providing the theoretical underpinnings necessary to overcome the developmental impasses confronting China’s industrial Internet platforms. Luo Xingwu, Professor of the School of Management, proposed that future endeavors should focus on dissecting the underlying logic of AI and industrial Internet platforms, aiming to elucidate their collective potential to catalyze enterprise digital transformation.

Adhering to President Xi Jinping’s important instructions on "strengthening theoretical research on the development of the digital economy", the conference aimed to better grasp the trends and laws governing this field, explore and refine the governance system of digital economy, and further enhance theoretical research and exchange in this crucial domain.

Over 20 participants from the School of Management and other related ZUFE schools attended the event.
